Council position on ePrivacy: Attack on our digital self-determination
The negotiations of the EU member states on their idea of the proposed ePrivacy regulation are coming to an end. The MEP of the German Pirate Party Dr. Patrick Breyer, shadow rapporteur of the Greens/European Free Alliance Group, warns:
Governments are trying to hijack this regulation to legalise mandatory and voluntary data retention, tracking and upload filters. Their version of the regulation does not deserve the name ‘ePrivacy’ – ‘dePrivacy’ would be more accurate. This attack on our digital self-determination is unacceptable.
Breyer’s criticisms of the Council’s position in detail can be read here.
